Paracelsus named the element zink after its sharp, pointed crystals, which stemmed from the German word "zinke" meaning pointed. He described the new element as tin-like. This element was commonly used in alchemy when the alchemists would burn zinc and collect the product zinc oxide. This discovery laid the foundation for the beginning of the concept of modern chemical elements.
