In episode 43 of The Autobiography of Jane Eyre, Jane and Rochester go down to Granville Island, located in Vancouver, BC. Granville Island was once an industrial wasteland but is now considered one of the gems of Vancouver, home to tourists, shopping, and a great view of the water. Granville Island's informational page states, "The charm of Granville Island lies in its unexpected mix of uses.  The famous Public Market, open daily from 9 am to 7 pm, is home to more than 50 independent food purveyors and contributes to the Island’s appeal as a renowned culinary destination. In the Net Loft Shops and Railspur District, many of Canada’s best artists and designers can be found. Granville Island is home to many cultural venues and hosts numerous performing arts and cultural festivals year-round" (Granville Island). This description is a reminder that Jane chooses an area that is bustling with people, activities, and commodities to purchase. Jane is often perceived as someone who likes to sit inside, teach, read, and drink tea, but when given the opportunity to take Rochester anywhere she wants, she makes the decision to bring him to a very public space. This reveals another side to her personality that viewers have not had the chance to see extensively yet, therefore forming a parallel in the way this episode also acts as a transitional point in Rochester and Jane’s relationship. Just as Jane becomes more outgoing in her personality, her relationship with Rochester transitions from platonic to openly flirty (Kidnapped).
