Description:
Helen McCloy's murder mystery of The Goblin Market was mass-published by Dell Publishing Company in New York, NY in 1943. It is a Mapback edition (#295), with a crime map of the story printed on the back cover. This edition was mass-marketed, which at the time was relatively new in the United States market; Dell Publishing Company's principal competitor was Pocket Books. Christina Rossetti's poem is not printed in full, rather it is used to develop a narrative about violence and greed and betrayal between men, however, a pocket-sized volume of the Poems of Christina Rossetti does appear on a character's corpse. Helen McCloy (1904-1994) is the principal author of this work; she is famously known for creating the character Dr. Basil Willing in the series Dance of Death (1938). The cover art is by Carl Mueller, known for illustrator-genre. There are two illustrations, the cover art and back cover art that depicts a crime map.
