National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies"The organisation was democratic, aiming to achieve women’s suffrage through peaceful and legal means, in particular by introducing Parliamentary Bills and holding meetings to explain and promote their aims." This union was made up of mainly middle class women who were the ones who faced unfair treatment by men and also by government officials. They were essential because they actually came together and tried to get straightening for the injustices that they were facing. They weren't violent and they made it their to make everything as peaceful as possible. They fought so that they could get the same opportunities as men did. https://snippetofhistory.wordpress.com/portfolio/national-union-of-women... |

Tractarianism MovementThe Tractarianism movement was also know as the "Oxford Movement" and Christinia Rosseti was a member of it. "One of the segments, called the “Puseyites,” were active after 1845 and published works that attacked the liberal invasion of Christianity and what they saw as the weaknesses of the Church". The movement inspired her works because she included a lot of christian elements in her poems, for example, the whole idea of "forbidden fruit" derived from the story of Adam and Eve. https://blogs.baylor.edu/britlit/2014/12/12/christina-rossettis-goblin-m... |

St.Mary Magdalene'sChristina Rossetti voluntereed at the penitentiary from 1859 to 1870 in which it inspired her to write the poem " Goblin Market". "In the mid-19th century it became socially acceptable for middle-upper class Christian women to work at refuges." But it did help her see the importance of how women are able to overcome their pass mistakes and how they are in control of themselves. Also how it was important for women to stick beside eachother especially considering the fact that the men were "in control". https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/advertisement-for-a-house-for-fallen-... |

Contagious Diseases Act of 1864"The Acts were introduced as an attempt to regulate 'common prostitutes', in order to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases within the British army and navy."The Contagious Disease act was specifically made for women during the Victorian era, although it was only for "prostitutes", it still mainly targeted women. It adds on to the fact that women were specifically targeted becasue we all know STD's can be trasmitted between men as well. The women were the only ones who had to report to the police or faced consequences for it. It is significant because it shows how much power the men had and how restricted the women were. https://navigator.health.org.uk/theme/contagious-diseases-act |

Goblin Market by Arthur RackhamThe original illustration of Goblin Market was illustrated by Rosseti's brother , Dante Gabriel Rosseti. "Rackham seems to be responding to the popular reading of the poem as a tale of the loss of sexual innocence." Since the illustrations were made during the 20th century the figures are a little bit mor4e detailed and you can see how he recreates the fairytale like characters. https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/goblin-market-illustrated-by-arthur-r... |
