This is a picture that is very important to me and for women throughout the entire country of England. For a long time, we have not had the same rights as men. My close friend played a large part of these protests to give women the right to vote. I could not attend any of these protests myself since I was too busy with school. My friend told me that this was taken at one of the largest protests that she attended. We have not been able to vote while the men have been able to. We are fighting for that right. We believe that we should have that right to have a say in what goes on in our country. It has been this way for such a long time, and it is getting to be time for a change to come. More and more women are joining our movement as we are gaining some momentum. I have heard from a few people that Parliament might be meeting soon to talk about giving women the right to vote. The odds of us getting the exact same voting rights as men are slim but at least there will be some women in our society that will be able to help make decisions to help our country. I am sure that soon our movement will have enough people and publicity that a change will come out of it.
Women receiving the right to vote was a major accomplishment not only in England, but in the other countries such as the United States. Women protested and fought for many hard years to gain this very important right in today’s world. As I have seen throughout this book, this woman has been very active in civil rights movements. Women fought very hard to receive the right to vote, but in 1918, with certain restrictions, women were finally given the right to vote as long as they were above the age of thirty. Over time, the age requirement declined as younger women became eligible to vote. This was definitely one of the major turning points in women’s rights as many other countries followed soon after.
