Description
This set of documents will provide a metaphorical (and also literal) map of the development of COVE. COVE (Collaborative Organization for Virtual Education), a non-profit classroom and publication platform, provides teachers and researchers with two distinct locations for their work: 1) COVE Studio, a password-protected space for the accumulation of public domain, Creative Commons and fair use primary texts that can be easily edited, prepared for annotation, and assembled into custom anthologies for reading and group annotation; and 2) COVE Editions, an open-access publishing platform, which makes it possible to disseminate knowledge: not only peer-reviewed and copy-edited work from various fields, but also flipped-classroom research projects by students. This space makes use of our open-access and open-source publication tools: a timeline-builder (TimelineJS), a map-builder (OpenLayers), a gallery-builder (Drupal), and a Drupal area for group assembly (complete with graphs indicating individual contributions); we have integrated these tools so groups can easily collaborate on projects and build new content.

Birkbeck has supported The COVE for a number of years by providing £1,500 per year to pay for Birkbeck postgrads who complete COVE work after training.
The University of Exeter was the first UK school to support COVE by providing funds to pay for Exeter postgrads doing COVE work after training: £1,500 per year.
Rutgers University was the first university to provide funds to support graduate students who complete COVE work after training: two years of support at $2,000/year.
Purdue University has supported The COVE through a number of grants and cost-shares totaling US$50,000. Starting in 2021, Purdue's School of Interdisciplinary Studies will support a graduate student who will be tasked with encoding texts by BIPOC authors from all fields.
The University of Alberta has provided COVE with a dedicated research-assistant line each year (valued at CA$16,500 per year).
Carleton University has been supporting COVE annually by providing CA$2,500 to support graduate students from Carleton who complete COVE work after training.
Ryerson University was the first founding Canadian university of the COVE Consortium and has provided CA$2,500 per year to support graduate students from Ryerson who complete COVE work after training.
