The beginning of the end of the Grosvenor Gallery was the publication in Nov 1887 of a hostile letter in The Times by Charles Hallé and Joseph Comyns Carr, curators at the Grosvenor, after which Hallé and Carr resigned from the Grosvenor to create the New Gallery (1890-1909).
