Victoria and Albert Museum
The Victoria and Albert Museum is located in Brompton, Kensington and Chelsea, London. First opened in May 1852, as the Museum of Manufactures in Marlborough House, a royal residence in Pall Mall, the museum moved to Brompton Park House, a large house on an estate owned by the Royal Commission, in 1856. Two buildings, the Sheepshanks Gallery and the Brompton Boilers, were appended to the House and completed for their official opening as the South Kensington Museum. The museum was renamed Victoria and Albert Museum during the laying of the foundation stone of the Aston Webb gallery, on 17 May 1899.
