Mayfair, London developed as a bustling social atmosphere around the May Fair Festival that took place there every year in the Spring. Before the 1920's wealthy politicans, aristocrats, bankers ect. moved into the area after the May Fair festival moved out of the area. There were fine restaruarunts, clothing shops, and large stately homes. In the 1920's this area was very wealthy and prestigious. A lot of the people living in Mayfair in the 1920's were young, but with "old money" and often some older relative of the family had fought in the World War. The inhabitants engaged in continuous frivolity despite the economic and mental depression of the first world war. Soon after the First World War, many of the rich occupants were leaving Mayfair in favor of the suburbs of London. The neighborhood held its prestige and luxury, but instead of residential, Mayfair became business oriented. 

Mayfair in the present day has seen generous revamping of the luxurious architecture and prestige. New and upcoming investors have moved into the neighborhood to make corporate offices. Old and foundational British brands have come back to Mayfair, as well as new international companies.  The arts and sciences have also began reblossoming, as architecture is revamped around the area. There is also a set distinction between the rich, revelous "old Mayfair" and that of North Mayfair. North Mayfair is becoming more diverse, with more options for those people lower on the economic food chain. Despite it's direpair over the decades, Mayfair is still looked at as one of the most expensive areas of London, and is currently undergoing large renovations to restore that prestige. 

Mayfair is still home to posh restaurants, expensive designers, and high-end art galleries. Pictured are the store fronts of luxury brands in the heart of the neighborhood.
