Congo River

The Congo River, formerly the Zaire River, is Africa’s second longest river and the world’s deepest river. It crosses the equator twice. The larger region of the Congo Basin is 3.7 million square kilometres. The name originates from the Kingdom of Kongo. The Congo River is largely navigable (aside from the Livingstone Falls) and is a major lifeline for many cities. It also is an importance source for hydroelectric power.
