Magenta

Magenta is a town in Lombardy, northern Italy, located west of Milan. Its name derives from that of Marcus Maxentius, a Roman general and emperor who had his headquarters there at Castra Maxentia. An ossuary containing the remains of 9,000 of the dead commemorates the Battle of Magenta. Related BRANCH articles: Alison Chapman, "On Il Risorgimento."
