Norland Park

The family of Dashwoods were established in the land of Sussex for a fair amount of time.  The estate was large and had a respectable mannor at the center of the property. The history of possesion in the book Sense and Sensibility begins with a single bachelor who invites his nephew, Mr. Henry Dashwood, the legal inheritor, to live with him. Mr. Henry Dashwood was in two marriages which produced a total of 4 children. In the first marriage was a male and the second 3 girls. Legally, John Dashwood, the son was entitled to all of the inheritance of Norland Park. Mr. Henry's three daughters and second wife lived in Norland Park until he became sick and passed away. Upon his passing, the legal inheritor, Mr. John Dashwood and his family moved into the mannor and the four ladies were now visitors in their own home. From this property they were displaced to live elsewhere. The importance of this property in the novel is the value for the value that affects the lifestyles of the Dashwoods. The inheritance of this property and money establishes Mr. John Dashwood and his family in a comfortable life.
