Ravenna
Ravenna is the capital city of the Province of Ravenna in northeast Italy. The Candiano Canal connects the city to the Adriatic Sea. Ravenna was part of the Papal States, although it came under French rule between 1796 and 1814. It became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. Lord Byron lived here briefly and composed part of Don Juan. Ravenna also features in works by Oscar Wilde, Hermann Hesse, and T.S. Eliot.
