Bath is located in the Somerset part of England. In Persuasion, Sir Elliot and Elizabeth move to Bath after their debts force them out of their family home. Anne joins them eventually in the second half of the novel. Mrs. Russell resides in Bath for a few weeks every winter and Mrs. Smith also resides in Bath as a result of her poor financial situation and for its medicinal properties.

"Two material advantages of Bath over London had of course been given all their weight: its more convenient distance from Kellynch, only fifty miles, and Lady Russell's spending some part of every winter there; and to the very great satisfaction of Lady Russell, whose first views on the projected change had been for Bath, Sir Walter and Elizabeth were induced to believe that they should lose neither consequence nor enjoyment by settling there" (Austen 55...

Chawton is a small village in East Hampshire that Jane Austen moved to with her mother, sister, and Martha Lloyd, a friend of the family, on July 7, 1809. This small village now seems to be most famous for being the place where Jane Austen took up residence after leaving her birthplace of Steventon. She and her other female companions were offered the house, now a huge Austen-related tourist site as well as general location, as Chawton House, by Edward Austen, one of Jane's older brothers. The estate had been inherited from a specific relation of the Austen family known as the Knight family. Chawton is geographically located near Alton in Hampshire as well as within the South Downs National Park.

The first Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, opened in 1732. It was built by the actor John Rich, the manager of The Duke’s Company – one of the only two theatre companies then licensed to perform plays.

The other was the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and there was intense competition between the two. In addition, the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, had a limited patent that allowed it to perform plays during the summer.

In 1792, the stage-manager and part-owner Thomas Harris employed the architect Henry Holland to give the theatre a makeover. According to The Microcosm of London, Harris spent £25,000 on internal and external refurbishments.

Today, it is the site of the Royal Opera House.
