The village of Meryton in Pride and Prejudice is a made up town that Jane Austen uses to show where the militia regiment is stationed. Meryton is also where the Meryton Ball took place, where we as the readers get to know more about Elizabeth Bennet's personality. Meryton is located 24 miles from London, stationed in Hertfordshire (where the Bennets are from) between Longbourn and Netherfield. During these times, the militia regiment was often stationed inland during the winter months at smaller camps like Meryton. During the summer months they moved towards larger camps along the coastline, like Brighton (the largest).

Longbourn in Pride and Prejudice is the location (estate) where the Bennet family resides. It is located in Hertfordshire, somewhat near Meryton. The Bennet's estate is owned by the girls father, Mr. Bennet and would be handed over to the next male relative if there was one, which means that none of the 5 daughters would be able to inherit it. The property is described as quite large, with a carriage and horses as well as land and the estate. This location is especially important because it is where the main characters of the novel live and spend the majority of their time.

Meryton is the fictional town where the militia regiment is quartered for a small amount of time in Pride and Prejudice . It is also where the Meryton ball took place, where the readers are able to learn more about Elizabeth as as character. Although Meryton is not a real place, it represents towns very similar to where the militia was stationed. The militia would often spend the winters in towns inland from the shores which is where Meryton would be located. Oftentimes the militia regiment would move out towards the coast during the summer months where the larger camps were located, Brighton being the largest. In the book, it states that Meryton is about 24 miles from London in Hertfordshire, between Longbourn and Netherfield.
